Hashing is a friendly, non-competitive sport of cross-country running, with roots in the hares-and-hounds meets of mid-1800s England. It found its way through the former British colonies and eventually into Batu.

Batu Hash House Harriers & Harriettes was formed in the late 1980s after two stalwarts, fortified by copious beverages, decided Batu needed its own hash house. Caveman and Mafia shaped the club and its logo; the inaugural run was flagged off on 13 December 1989.
